Essex & Herts Air Ambulance (EHAAT) is delighted to announce the promotion of Finance Director Jonathan Ager to the newly created position of Deputy CEO in addition to his role as Finance Director, effective from 1st August 2024.

This strategic appointment is aimed at ensuring the smooth running of the charity as it continues to grow allowing EHAAT’s CEO Jane Gurney to focus more on strategic initiatives and external engagement, further raising the profile of EHAAT.

Jane Gurney, EHAAT CEO, commented “Jonathan’s expanded role as Finance Director/Deputy CEO will naturally support me as CEO, helping to oversee the day-to-day functions within our growing organisation. This new role will aid the smooth running of the charity, which has increased greatly over time as we have grown in both size and complexity. It will allow me as CEO to spend more time strategically and to have a more externally facing focus, further raising the profile of the charity. Jonathan’s wealth of experience and knowledge really does stand him in good stead to take on this important new role, which will help guide and lead our charity over the coming years as we embark on an exciting new chapter to deliver ambitious plans for the future.”

Jonathan has been an integral part of EHAAT for over seven years. During his tenure as part of the executive team, he has been instrumental in several key achievements, including the acquisition of two AW169 helicopters, the construction of the state-of-the-art airbase at North Weald and the growth of EHAAT’s Flight for Life Lottery which has provided financial stability for the service.

Before joining EHAAT, he served as the Finance Director for 12 years and Managing Director for three years at a Mercedes-Benz commercial vehicle dealership, managing multiple sites throughout East Anglia and employing over 200 people. These previous senior leadership roles provided him with extensive experience in running a fast-paced and complex organisation.

Jonathan Ager, Finance Director & Deputy CEO, stated “I’m looking forward to taking on this new expanded role and to work closely with Jane and the wider team as we embark on an exciting period of change for the charity, working towards our key strategic objectives such as operating under our own Air Operator’s Certificate and establishing the Centre for Excellence.”

This promotion marks a significant step for EHAAT as it positions itself for future growth and success. Jonathan’s leadership and expertise will be invaluable as the charity continues to deliver its vital life-saving services and embarks on new initiatives to enhance its operations and impact.
