Sustainability at Lifehouse

At Lifehouse we constantly strive to responsibly reduce our impact on the environment and are proud to be able to commit to the following measures of sustainability. As we work towards our Green Tourism accreditation we wanted to highlight our commitments to this increasingly important subject:

Biodiversity
Our grounds at Lifehouse have been enriched with bug hotels, log piles, bee hives, bird and bat boxes. Wildflower meadows have been planted alongside wild areas left to flourish naturally. Vigilant monitoring and recording of wildlife and plant life occur regularly. Living roofs grace our structures, while on-site composting of garden waste, shredded paper, and coffee grounds is standard practice. Our woodland undergoes regular coppicing and meticulous management, with a focus on repurposing wood whenever feasible. Eco-friendly cleaning chemicals are prioritised wherever possible, ensuring a harmonious coexistence with nature.

Food and Drink
We prioritise ethically and responsibly sourced produce, procured locally whenever feasible. Our menu offers plant-based and non-dairy dining options, catering to diverse dietary preferences. We diligently minimise food wastage, adhering to sustainable practices throughout our operations.

Travel & Transport
We've installed EV chargers and bicycle racks to accommodate patrons, the local community, and employees alike. Encouraging eco-friendly commuting, we promote the use of public transport and offer convenient train station transfers. Our commitment to reducing emissions extends to purchasing locally whenever feasible, minimising delivery impacts. Additionally, we foster a culture of carpooling among employees, while restricting business travel to essential trips only.

Energy
Our power is 100% renewable, and we track usage through energy and carbon management plans. LCD lighting, sensor-operated, is complemented by solar panels. Recent upgrades maximise efficiency in boilers, pumps, and air handling units. Our waste management company handles recycling, offering insights on landfill and recycling rates. Partnering with eco-conscious suppliers like simplehuman and BCORP product partners aligns with our purchasing policy. Single-use plastics are phased out wherever feasible.

Water Conservation
We diligently monitor water consumption and efficiency, employing various measures to conserve this precious resource. Our installations of low-flow taps, showers, and dual flush toilets significantly reduce water usage. Additionally, our gardens benefit from an irrigation system sourced from onsite ponds and lakes, ensuring sustainable water management practices.

Community
Our dedicated green team actively engages in local litter picking efforts within the village and nearby beaches. Through our support of selected charities and organisations, we contribute to meaningful causes aligned with our values. Furthermore, we champion low-carbon activities both locally and onsite, fostering sustainability in our community and operations.
