Braintree Town Visit
On the 10th of June, the Business Crime Team was joined by the High Sheriff of Essex on their visit to Braintree Town Link Partnership.
The team visited various exciting and unique independent businesses and listened to plans to improve the local area and promote a healthy retail zone for shoppers to enjoy.
The Business Crime Team provided them with advice, and how local partners could support them. The team also provided advice on ways they can help to prevent anti-social behaviour.
Tackling Fuel Thefts
With fuel prices rising we are expecting to see more people attempting to steal fuel. If you work within the fuel industry please be extra vigilant and remember our top five tips to avoid fuel theft.
- Ask for payment before supplying fuel
- Check the vehicle number plates are on display or if they look odd?
- Be aware of odd behaviour, filling up multiple cans of fuel
- Check where your cameras are pointing
- Consider staff being used on the forecourt
Even if you aren’t involved in the fuel industry, this could still affect you, with the potential for fuel to be stolen from vehicles in your fleet. Please stay vigilant and report any thefts that occur, this will help police to identify areas of concern.

Frinton Town Visit
After reports of anti-social behaviour from local convenience stores, the Business Crime Team visited Frinton-on-Sea.
During the visit, the team introduced our “Open for Business, Closed to Crime” campaign to the local store that had been affected. The campaign is designed to raise confidence in reporting these incidents, ensure the best possible investigations are completed, deter offenders and support victims.
We worked with the store managers on how they can reduce this issue and what we can do to prevent situations where their staff are being harassed.

When and how to contact the Police
We understand that businesses are extremely busy and not always clear on the most appropriate method to contact the police. If you would like to report business related crime or antisocial behaviour, which is not an emergency you can use our online digital 101 service at www.essex.police.uk. We also have a live chat facility at the bottom of our website or if you prefer to speak to someone you can call 101.
Alternatively if an incident is happening right now, and it feels like the situation could get heated or violent very soon or someone is in immediate danger? Please call 999. If you're deaf or hard of hearing, you can use our textphone service 18000 or text us on 999 if you’ve pre-registered with the emergency SMS service.
