Open Road's Fundraising Manager, Leah tells all about their Recovery Walk fundraising celebration.
To help celebrate the huge success of Open Road turning 30, we decided to create an event that got everyone involved with the organisation together and moving about. So on Sunday 4th July, Open Road set out with many of its supporters for the 2021 Recovery Walk. The rain and sunshine joined us for the day as we walked many different paths across Essex and Medway.
The Recovery Walk was designed to show society that it is ok to talk about addiction, that support is out there for anyone who maybe struggling and ultimately to reduce the stigma that is associated with mental health and substance misuse. Everyone who comes into Open Road has their own journey to take with different paths ahead, but here at Open Road we will make sure that we are there for you every step of the way.
We walked, and will continue to walk to support friends and families in recovery. To honour the loved ones we have lost along the way. To remove the stigma and discrimination.
We walked, and will continue to walk because EVERYBODY KNOWS SOMEBODY who has been affected by addiction.
If you would like to take part in a Recovery Walk of your own this summer, or donate to Open Road, it’s not too late! Please go along to the Just Giving page or to the Open Road website www.openroad.org.uk for more information.
