Wow…It’s hard to believe. It’s funny looking back when myself (Ryan) and Danny started from humble beginnings from our apartments in Brentwood, until we moved into a small office in Brentwood High Street.
Ten years later, having recently returned from a very, very busy week in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam, attending meetings and conferences it couldn’t be any different to how things started off. In the early days, the furthest trip anyone would have done, would have been to go to the bank in Brentwood High Street. How things change.
Westbound has grown in strength and size, for the last 5 years our home has been at the London Gateway Port, Stanford Le Hope in a nice large office - contrast to the small cramped office where we began. Now have over 20 staff here in the UK, and new overseas offices in Shenzhen, Ningbo, Shanghai, in China, plus Hong Kong with those offices boastings around 30 staff combined. Further office expansion plans are always being considered, more recently for offices in the USA, so I guess we truly are an international company.
We still have the very first employed member of staff working with us, Riley Gosling, which shows Westbound does do it right. Looking after our staff is paramount to our business and our personal beliefs. Without all the great people we have working in our team, we wouldn’t be as successful as we have been.
Along with staff retention is customer retention. We still have the customer who gave us our very first container ten years ago, and this means a lot to us as it’s a display of loyalty, and trust from our customers. That one container from China to the UK, has now grown to 1000’s of containers from China to the UK, China to the US and Australia. Export containers back out from the UK, including import and export from the UK to Europe. This is just the UK office, our China office; since its opening in 2016 has grown even faster than we first did back in 2009.
We are passionate about service and forever trying to improve. We are investing in our IT systems and customer visibility functions. All of which will give us that little more to offer, to help improve and streamline what we do but more importantly the overall experience for our customers.
So, all in all its been a fast moving 10 years for us and we are looking to do something nice next summer, to enable our team to celebrate the story so far. We will keep you posted on this for future publications, also keep an eye on our social media platforms.
So, as owners, Danny and I have enjoyed every minute of the initial 10-year chapter and we’re certainly looking forward to next. I can’t begin to imagine what we’d have achieved come 20 years!
