Trenitalia-owned train operator c2c has introduced new sunflower lanyards for passengers who have a hidden condition or disability.
The bright green sunflower lanyards enable c2c staff to recognise those customers who have a hidden disability without them needing to declare it and give additional reassurance that help is on hand if extra assistance is needed during a journey.
The scheme was officially launched at a recent Try a Train event where approximately 300 pupils from eight different colleges and schools across South Essex joined c2c on a special service from Shoeburyness to Fenchurch Street. The event was organised in conjunction with Essex County Council to help introduce young people with a range of disabilities to the idea and the practicalities of train travel and to give them the confidence to travel independently.
Head of Stations Julie Davis, said: “Living with any disability can be difficult, but when the disability is not visible it makes life extra hard. Events like our Try a Train day really bring home the importance of disability awareness and many of the students that were travelling last week had no outward sign of disability. The sunflower lanyards will go some way to making life a little easier for our passengers who may need a helping hand when travelling with us.”
The lanyards will be available from c2c station booking offices or by post from our Customer Relations department.
