You may have wondered how e-learning is made, and you'd be forgiven for doubting if there’s any substance behind it...
Our online training (e-learning) was initially designed to reach those employers who weren’t reaching out to health and safety consultancies. We knew that high prices and fear-of-technical-speak (FOTS) was often putting off good hard working businesses (who ended up just getting on with the job, and not committing to providing good health and safety training).
The online training team found this a bit frustrating and knew there must be a way to reach those business, with good, competent, trustworthy online training. But how is it made..?
Here’s a sneaky insight into the process for developing our online training (it’s more fun than you might think…)
Let’s take a look at the Environmental Awareness course and how that came to be...
First, it’s all about the research. We go all out to find out exactly how things are done and what it takes. In this case we visited a waste resources management center.
In the rain.
Let me say those are some hard working dedicated people!
Course development needs consultation. A hands on experience where we explore the realities of the subject and the people who deal with the issues day to day. We learned about the processing of waste resources management, and the sheer scale and quantities involved. It’s mind boggling…
Did you ever think that much of what we throw away is actually sorted by hand? With just a few mechanical processes (like conveyor belts) to support the process.
Part of the fun of generating new online training courses is about working with the real people behind the scenes. We learn so much about our subject from the heroes who co-operate with us to ensure we understand.
What’s refreshing is that no matter what the subject and how dismal the weather, our research allows us to meet the most amazing people, who go the extra mile to help us learn everything we need to know. (And yes, that is Dangerous Dave.)
Once the research is completed it’s back to the development team, to share the ideas and insights. Our hard working team work behind the scenes, on course authoring, graphics design, content development and user experience (UX to those of you in the know...)
Want to know the nerdy stuff?
UX means User Experience.
User Experience is a conglomeration of tasks focused on optimization of a product for effective and enjoyable use; User Interface Design is its complement, the look and feel, the presentation and interactivity of a product.
It takes lots of hard work, communication and cooperation to create the completed course. All that’s left is to simply tell everyone about it. So, if you haven’t seen it yet, here’s our online Environmental Awareness course (*grins proudly)
So, that’s how it’s made.
