Trenitalia-owned train operator c2c is running longer trains during the evenings over the next fortnight to help Christmas shoppers and partygoers get into the festive spirit and back home safely afterwards.
Over 500 evening trains are being doubled in lengthen from 4-carriages to 8-carriages on weekday evenings until Friday 21 December. Each day the extra carriages will provide passengers with nearly 10,000 extra seats, as traditionally quiet times for travel become much busier during December.
c2c Delivery Director Joel Mitchell said: “We know that in December our evening trains are busier than ever, as more people are heading out for Christmas shopping or staying in London later because of Christmas parties. That’s why we’re playing our part by doubling the length of over 500 evening trains in the run-up to Christmas.”
The first train to be lengthened each evening will be the 19.25 service from Fenchurch Street to Grays via Rainham. The final longer train is the last service of the night, the 00.34 departure from Fenchurch Street to Shoeburyness via Laindon.
