Founders of Cliffs Chiropractic Clinic in Westcliff-on-Sea, Arif Soomro and Melanie Cutting, received the highest accolade from the British Chiropractic Association (BCA) when they were jointly awarded Chiropractor of the Year 2015/16 at the BCA Conference.
This award recognises exceptional achievement within the profession and Matthew Bennett, President of the BCA, on presenting the award to Soomro and Cutting, cited their many accomplishments since they started their multi-disciplinary clinic in 1994. He said: "Melanie and Arif are inspirational chiropractors. Their enthusiasm and drive for their practice and their patients has put them at the forefront of the profession. They are wonderful ambassadors for the chiropractic profession both in their local community and further afield."
Nominations for Chiropractor of the Year are received from the BCA membership and the award is made to the nominee who has made an outstanding contribution to the profession that year. Out of the several contenders for the 2015 award, Soomro and Cutting were considered to be the most worthy. On receiving the award, Soomro said: “We are thrilled and honoured to receive this award. Our goal is to provide the best possible chiropractic care and make patients feel better faster so it’s amazing to be recognised for work we love doing.”
There are 12 members of the Cliffs Chiropractic team and they have dedicated themselves to providing outstanding levels of client satisfaction. The team has a record of achievement that is second to none and includes: one of only two chiropractic clinics to be included in this year’s Parliamentary Review as an example of best practice in private healthcare (in fact it is the only BCA chiropractic clinic ever to be recognised by the Review); first to install a computerised x-ray system; winner of global clinic comparison site WhatClinic.com’s 2014 Customer Service Award; holder of the 2015 Patient Partnership Quality Mark (PPQM) which recognises excellence in meeting patient expectations. It also registered with the Care Quality Commission (CQC)* and therapists have additional qualifications in paediatrics, acupuncture and herbalism.
The clinic is now a centre of excellence and attracts clients from all over the UK. Beyond mainstream chiropractic it offers a wide choice of specialised treatments from cranial therapy and the Webster
Technique** for pregnant women, to the alleviation of occupational stress and the creation of bespoke exercise regimes.
*The CQC makes sure health and social care services provide people with safe, effective, compassionate, high-quality care. It publishes the findings to help people choose care. The chiropractic profession is not required to be regulated by the CQC, but Soomro and Cutting want their clinic to be held up to scrutiny, judged by standards that affect care services in England.
**The Webster technique is very specialised which few chiropractors can perform on pregnant ladies and they can travel for miles to see Arif Soomro. His specialisation is in paediatrics and pregnant women.
